Falcons sweep Panthers
The St. Catharines Falcons took care of the Pelham Panthers Thursday night 6-2 in Pelham to sweep their best-of-seven, quarter-final playoff series 4-0.
The Falcons now advance to the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference best-of-seven semifinals which will begin next Friday in St. Catharines.
The Falcons will play either the Ancaster Avalanche or Niagara Falls Canucks depending on the outcome of the Ancaster-Welland series. The Avs lead that set 3-0 and an Ancaster win would see them play the Falcons and the Canucks square off against the Caledonia Corvairs. Should the Junior Canadians rally for a series win, they would play the Corvairs with the Falcons getting the Canucks.
“We started off real quick, scoring four in the first,” Falcons general manager Frank Girhiny said. “We continued to stay disciplined which resulted in 10 power-play goals in four games.”
Girhiny said the sweep will come in handy and give the Falcons a chance to regroup.
“It was very important. We have some guys with injuries and will be 100 per cent by next Friday,” he said.
Dakota Miskolczi had two goals while Gianluca Fuoco, Kyle West, Dante Felicetti and Zach Lawrence added singles.
Zach Thompson and Noah Caperchione replied for the Panthers.
