Feb. 21 Niagara College report: Women’s Vball advances to OCAAs
The Niagara College Knights women’s volleyball team advanced to the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association quarter-finals Thursday at Sheridan with a 3-2 victory 25-27, 19-25, 25-13, 25-19 and 15-12) victory over George Brown in crossover action.
Niagara will play Humber in the quarter-finals.
Topping the stat sheet for the Knights versus George Brown were: Montanna Taylor with 19 points and 14 kills; Rachael Bickford with 23 assists; and, Madelyn Berg with seven digs.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Niagara’s men’s volleyball team saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss (22-25, 21-25 and 19-25) loss to Algonquin.
Top statistical performers were: Colin Prelaz with 13 points and 13 kills; Carter Thurman with 24 assists; and, Elijah Bugiardini and Micah Nieuwets with four digs.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Niagara College Knights women’s basketball team is going into the playoffs on a high.
Niagara (9-7) closed out its OCAA regular season with a 64-60 victory over Lambton (13-3) and a 74-31 drubbing of St. Clair (7-9).
As host, Niagara advances to the OCAA quarter-finals where it will play the winner of a game between Algonquin (14-0) and Mohawk (5-11).
Against Lambton, Niagara led 14-13 after one quarter and trailed 35-30 at the half before outscoring its opponents 34-25 in the second half to record the victory.
Leading the way for Niagara were: Taryn Mitchell with 19 points and 18 rebounds; Janee Harrison with 18 points and six boards; Molly Taylor with 12 points and 10 rebounds; and, Angelica Lapensee with six points and five rebounds.
The Knights cruised past St. Clair by building quarter leads of 18-10, 42-17 and 61-24.
Top performers for the Knights were: Mitchell with 23 points; Taylor with 10 points and nine rebounds; Eden Ferraro with 10 points and seven boards; and, Diana Saoud with seven points and six rebounds.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Niagara men’s basketball team (11-7) split its final two regular season games to earn the right to host an OCAA crossover game Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Loyalist.
The Knights defeated Lambton (9-9) 87-74 before getting thumped 96-59 by first-place St. Clair (15-3).
Against Lambton, Niagara built quarter leads of 32-21, 52-33 and 71-60 to record the victory.
Leading the way for Niagara were: Delroy Grandson with 14 points and 13 boards; Mark Taylor with 13 points; Ethan Alino-DellaCruz with 10 points, six rebounds and seven assists; and, Simon Ricketts-Ewan with 10 points.
Niagara was outscored 57-28 in the middle quarters against St. Clair.
Topping the stat sheet for the Knights were: Kennan Larmand with 13 points; Igor M’Baya with nine points; and, Reggie Williams with eight points and seven boards.
