Kilty B’s 6 Blackhawks 2
The Hamilton Kilty B’s broke open a close game with four goals in a span of six minutes to defeat the Thorold Blackhawks 6-2 in the opener of their best-of-seven Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference quarter-final playoff series Thursday in Hamilton.
Following a scoreless first period, the Kilty B’s opened up a 2-1 lead after two before the Blackhawks tied it at 2-2 early in the third.
Steven Laforme had two goals and two assists for Hamilton while Nick Giamou (1-4) and Ellis Rickwood (1-3) also had multiple points. Freddie Teeple and Justin Monteith chipped in with singles.
Dylan Scriver and Mario Zitella scored for Thorold.
Game 2 goes Saturday in Thorold at 7:30 p.m.
Corvairs 4 Blades 0
The Caledonia Corvairs blanked the Buffalo Blades to take a 2-0 lead in their series.
Danyk Drouin, Ryan Wells, Noah Caperchione and Nick Guinta scored for the Corvairs.
Aidan Hughes had to make just 12 saves to earn the shutout.
Game 3 is Saturday in Caledonia at 7:30 p.m.

The Niagara Falls Titans Girls under-14 soccer team is looking for a few girls born in 2006 to round out its roster. The travel team plays in the Niagara Soccer League.
