Victoria Rampado was one of four people named to the A.N. Myer Wall of Distinction Thursday.
Three athletes and a coach became members of the A.N. Myer Wall of Distinction Thursday.
Joining the wall were Kassidy Kidd, Vanessa and Victoria Rampado, and Bart Maves.
KASSIDY KIDD
Kidd was a multi-sport athlete at Myer, wearing the purple and white in basketball, cross country, volleyball and soccer. She was respected for her team commitment and competitive spirit.
On the soccer pitch, she lead the Marauders to a pair of Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association championships in her four seasons.
On the basketball court, she helped Myer win an Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools Association silver medal in 2011. She was part of a cross country squad that placed fifth at OFSAA in her Grade 11 year and also suited up for four seasons on the volleyball team.
When her Myer career ended, Kidd headed to the University of Buffalo on a soccer scholarship where she was a four-year starter and played more than 3,800 career minutes. Her accolades in Buffalo included: being a two-time member of the Mid-American Conference Academic All-Conference Team; helping her team to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014 after winning the MAC tournament; being selected to the MAC First Team in 2015; garnering the MAC Offensive Player of the Week award twice; leading her team to the MAC East Division championship; being recognized as her team’s offensive player of the year; and ending up as a finalist for Buffalo’s female athlete of the year.
VANESSA RAMPADO
Vanessa was a valuable volleyball and badminton player for the Marauders but it was on the basketball court where she shone brightest.
The four-year starter helped Myer to OFSAA berths in her Grade 11 and 12 years and an OFSAA silver medal. In 2010-2011, she was awarded the Harold Biggar Award as the outstanding female basketball player in Niagara Falls. The following year she shared the award with Victoria.
Vanessa continued her basketball career with a four-year stint at the University of Guelph. Vanessa’s skill and leadership was recognized by her being named team captain for her final three seasons. She helped lead her team to the OUA quarter-finals twice.
VICTORIA RAMPADO
Victoria was known and respected for her high level of skill, perseverance, and desire while playing four years of volleyball, badminton, and basketball and one year of soccer at Myer.
The three-time winner of the Harold Bigger Award helped lead her team to three straight SOSSA crowns and an OFSAA silver medal in her Grade 11 year.
Her basketball career continued across the river with an excellent run with the Niagara University Purple Eagles. Among Victoria’s achievements were: MAAC Rookie of the Year; All-MAAC Second Team; MAAC Player of the Year Award; and, leading the MAAC in scoring on two occasions.
She left Niagara as the program’s career leader in points and rebounds, had her number retired and was inducted into the Niagara University Hall of Fame in 2023.
BART MAVES
Bart Maves started his long coaching career at Myer in 1983 with the basketball team, spending six seasons with the squad and helping guide it to a SOSSA championship in 1990.
After a break from coaching, he returned to coach baseball and curling. Maves has coached six SOSSA championship teams and a silver-medal winning OFSAA baseball squad in 2019. Myer’s baseball team has put together a 109-17-3 record during his time on the staff with 12 of those losses occurring at OFSAA.
Maves had a big hand in supporting Myer athletics including: being a founding member of the A.N. Myer Wall of Distinction; serving as vice-chair of the committee that oversaw the fundraising and construction of the Myer Outdoor Sports Complex and still oversees its maintenance; helping to organize the District School Board of Niagara outdoor turf field projects; and, being a key contributor and fundraiser for many of Myer’s sports teams.
