IceDogs goalie in stable condition following surgery
Niagara IceDogs goalie Tucker Tynan had successful surgery and is in stable condition at hospital after being severely cut in the leg by a skate during Thursday night’s game against the London Knights at the Meridian Centre, the Ontario Hockey League team announced.
Original reports had Tynan suffering a severed artery, which were proven false in surgery.
The injury occurred when Tynan was run into by Hunter Skinner of the Knights player and went down immediately. A pool of blood could be seen in the crease as Tynan struggled to regain his feet.
The injury occurred less than a minute into the of second period. After Tucker was quickly attended to, players from both teams left and the ice. A few minutes later the game was postponed.
IceDogs general manager Joey Burke called Canadian Hockey League president Dave Branch who gave his permission to postpone the game. The Knights were leading 2-1.
Tynan is a 17-year-old native of Chicago who is in his first season with the IceDogs after being selected in the 10th round of the 2018 OHL draft.
He came into camp as a leading candidate to backup Christian Sbraraglia but quickly established himself as the No. 1 goalie with a 3.80 goals against average and .910 save percentage in 23 games.
The IceDogs next game is at Peterborough Saturday.
