GOJHL sets start date
If all goes according to plan, the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) will begin the 2021/22 season Friday, Sept. 24.
The GOJHL held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) meeting recently with plans to begin the season in the third week of September, pending approval from public health authorities.
“After a very long 16 months for all of our teams, players and fans, we’re very excited to get to work on our 2021-22 season,” GOJHL commissioner Brent Garbutt said in a press release. “Despite it being a few weeks later than normal, we believe this date will allow sufficient time for our players and teams to prepare while maintaining our top priority of their health and safety.”
The league also announced it will hold its Showcase Tournament in January with the post-season scheduled to begin Wednesday, March 16, 2022.
As well, the GOJHL presidents/governors approved players 18 years of age and older will once again be provided the opportunity to wear a half face-shield.
The GOJHL also announced its new board of directors, with Caledonia’s Scott Miller returning as chairman and Tim Simmons from London as vice-chairman. Niagara Falls’ Frank Pietrangelo, Listowel’s Matt Miller and Pelham’s Tim Toffolo round out the group as directors.
