Holy Cross unbeaten in flag football
Holy Cross is now the only unbeaten team after two weeks of action in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association’s varsity girls flag football league.
Holy Cross defeated Lakeshore Catholic 19-6 and Denis Morris 30-19 last Tuesday to remain perfect.
Saint Francis and Saint Paul are tied for second with 3-1 records followed by Saint Michael Team Two (2-1), Saint Michael (1-2), Denis Morris (1-3), Blessed Trinity (1-3) and Lakeshore Catholic (0-2).
Other scores from last Tuesday were: Saint Francis 52 Saint Michael 18; Saint Paul 41 Saint Michael Two 19; Blessed Trinity 24, Denis Morris 14; Saint Paul 44 Blessed Trinity 36; Saint Francis 34 Lakeshore Catholic 12.
“The Saint Paul girls flag football team braved the rain yesterday (last Tuesday) and came out winning both of their games at the Kalar Road Sports Park. The girls defeated St. Mike’s with a score of 41-13. Leading the team in points was Teagan Clark with six touchdowns. Maliah Paul added to the score with a Pick 6. Rose Peters also added points with a safety,” Saint Paul coach Lindsay Pacilli wrote. “In the second game, the Patriot ladies defeated Blessed Trinity 44-36. Teagan Clark scored four touchdowns and a Pick 6 and Emily Ganski added two touchdowns. Grayce Bell and Shylah Powell were strong on defence and quarterback Charlotte Clark directed the team’s offensive play for both games. Congratulations on the wins, ladies.”
Dennis Morris head coach Erin Clark saw her team battle in a tough game against Blessed Trinity with an interception each from Kennady Forster, Kailey McKimm and Reese Praskey.
“For the second week in a row, McKimm turned her interception into a touchdown in Game 1. Angel Adeboye worked her magic at the rusher position, claiming two sacks in the first game alone,” Clark wrote. “The second game saw the girls really come together as a team. The Reds took on the undefeated Holy Cross Raiders and kept it close all game. Chloe Hutton picked up a couple of touchdowns and Isabella Inthiemvong stunned everyone as a running back to claim a touchdown and an extra point. There is no question that Denis Morris proved the toughest opponent for Holy Cross so far. Standout performances go to Haliyat Ayoola, who locked down the corner position on defence, and Chloe Hutton, for her calm leadership on offence.”
Games continue Tuesday at Kalar Sports Park in Niagara Falls.
