IceDogs add winger
The Niagara IceDogs continue to wheel and deal.
A day after trading stars Akil Thomas and Phil Tomasino, the club Friday picked up forward Cameron Peters from the North Bay Battalion.
The IceDogs acquired the 17-year-old Toronto native, along with North Bay’s sixth-round pick in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection, in exchange for the rights to Christian Stevens, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds’ third-round pick in 2023, and Erie’s eighth-round pick in 2022.
Stevens is a 17-year-old winger who is committed to the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the 2021-22 season.
“This is a very exciting addition for us,” general manager Joey Burke said. “Cam is a guy I absolutely loved in his draft year, a second-round pick who was a standout for the Toronto Marlboros. This change of scenery should reignite Cam and I know he is going to fit in great with our young group”.
Peters, a former second-round selection (29th overall) in 2018, has two goals and six assists in 38 games this season.
Peters is listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds and is reputed to have a standout shot.
“Cam adds a nice dynamic of speed size and skill and is a guy I have wanted to bring in for two years. I am very excited at this addition. It really helps contribute to our bright future,” Burke said.
The IceDogs, who dropped a 7-1 decision Thursday night at home to Hamilton, are in Kitchener tonight and at Erie Saturday. Oliver Castleman netted the lone Niagara goal in the loss.
