The Niagara IceDogs continue to overturn their roster at a historic rate.
The IceDogs Friday competed their 22nd transaction under owner/general manager Darren DeDobbelaer, sending forward Aidan Castle and defenceman Rodwin Dionicio to the Windsor Spitfires for forward Chris O’Flaherty, defenceman Bronson Ride, a second-round pick in 2026 (Windsor) and a sixth-round pick in 2024 (Ottawa).
The club now has only seven players — injured captain Landon Cato, forwards Anthony Agostinelli, Juan Copeland, Daniel Michaud and Declan Waddick, goaltender Josh Rosenzweig and defenceman Andrew Wycisk— remaining on the roster from last year’s team which finished in last place overall with a 22-42-3-1 record and .353 winning percentage.
The IceDogs, 8-17-4-1 and .350 winning percentage, are in last place overall heading into Friday’s home game versus the league leading Ottawa 67’s.
O’Flaherty is a 2005-born forward in his second OHL season. The Chicago native was drafted by Windsor 73rd overall in the fourth round of the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. In two seasons with the Spitfires, O’Flaherty collected eight goals and eight assists in 80 games.
Ride, a 17-year-old defenceman from Oakville, stands 6-foot-6 and weighs in 201 pounds. Drafted 20th overall by the Spitfires in 2021 out of the Oakville Rangers U16 program, Ride has notched 12 points in his time with the Spitfires.
Castle, a former first-round draft pick, was traded to the IceDogs in 2021 from the Oshawa Generals. Since the trade, the Mississauga native has tallied 63 points in two seasons for the IceDogs.
Playing in his second OHL season, Dionicio was drafted by the IceDogs 18th overall in the first round of the 2020 import draft. The Switzerland native has notched 10 goals and 28 assists totalling 38 points in 74 IceDogs games.
