The Niagara IceDogs three-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday night with a 6-2 loss to the Hamilton Bulldogs in Ontario Hockey League action at the FirstOntario Centre.
IceDogs head coach Billy Burke had no problem with the team’s level of effort.
“I thought the guys played hard and never quit against a very strong Hamilton team,” Burke said. “ Structurally we did a lot of good things and hung with them. We just weren’t able to capitalize on some chances.”
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the game on a power-play goal by Ryan Winterton.
That was it for the scoring in the opening 20 minutes which saw the IceDogs hold an 11-8 lead in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs took over in the second with goals by Jan Mysak, Logan Morrison, George Diaco and newly acquired Mason McTavish. McTavish, picked up from the Peterborough Petes at the trade deadline, finished with a goal and an assist.
Morrison added his second of the game in the third period for Hamilton while Danil Gushchin and Juan Copeland replied for Niagara.
“Nice goal by Copeland in the third,” Burke said. “I am proud of the team.”
Josh Rosenzweig made 23 saves in net for the IceDogs and took the loss.
Matteo Drobac faced 23 shots in goal for the Bulldogs.
The IceDogs are at home to Barrie Thursday, in Mississauga Friday and home to Kingston Saturday.
