IceDogs manhandled in Mississauga

The Niagara IceDogs fell behind early and never recovered as they dropped a 9-1 decision to the Mississauga Steelheads in Ontario Hockey League action Friday at Mississauga.
The loss was the second in a row for the IceDogs who are now 6-15-0-1, including 2-7-0-1 in their last 10 games. Their .295 winning percentage is last in the 20-team OHL.
The Steelheads jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and by the six-minute mark had built a 6-0 lead. Aidan Castle finally got Niagara on the board with his fifth of the season just past the halfway point of the second before a late goal restored Mississauga’s six-goal lead heading into the third.
The Steelheads didn’t let up in the final 20 minutes, pouring in two more goals to round out the scoring.
Owen Beck paced Mississauga with three goals while Aidan Prueter added a pair. Ty Collins, Luca DelBelBelluz and Zander Veccia and James Hardie also scored.
Josh Rosenzweig got the start in goal for the IceDogs and permitted five goals on 22 shots in 25:59 minutes of action.
Rookie Joey Costanzo finished up between the pipes and permitted four goals on 13 shots.
The IceDogs went 1-for-4 on the power play while the Steelheads head three goals in eight opportunities with the man advantage.
The IceDogs are home to the Kingston Frontenacs Saturday.
