The Niagara IceDogs picked up a point for the first time in two weeks, dropping a 5-4 shootout decision at Barrie in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.
The IceDogs, who last won Nov. 13 versus Oshawa, are now 5-13-0-1 and 0-8-0-1 in their last 10 games.
“I thought it was a good game,” IceDogs coach Billy Burke said. “Had chances in OT. Stings for sure, but a big point.”
Niagara fell behind 1-0 on a goal from Anthony Tabak. Hunter Haight gave Barrie a 2-0 lead early in the second before the IceDogs responded with goals from Liam Van Loon, with his third since joining the club, and Jake Uberti. The scoring continued in the period when Oskar Olausson netted a goal with three minutes to play, but the IceDogs bounced back again to tie the game at 3-3 when Danil Gushchin scored with five seconds remaining.
Gushchin potted his second of the game, and 14th of the season, less than a minute into the third to give the IceDogs their only lead of the game. Barrie tied it at the 10:33 mark on a goal by Nathan Allensen.
Niagara out-shot Barrie 3-2 in overtime.
In the shootout, Uberti, Gushchin and Cam Butler were all stopped.
Josh Rosenzweig, who had a solid game in goal for the IceDogs, turned away Brandt Clarke and Olausson before Ethan Cardwell netted the winner.
“Guys played hard, Rosenzweig played well,” Burke said.
The IceDogs are home to Ottawa Thursday and North Bay Saturday.
