IceDogs rally to pick up point
The Niagara IceDogs twice rallied from two-goal deficits and picked up a point as they dropped a 6-5 overtime decision to the Owen Sound Attack Wednesday night at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.
The IceDogs, 11-12-4-1, are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games and just one point behind the Barrie Colts for second place in the Central Division of the Ontario Hockey League. The Colts own five games in hand.
Owen Sound led 2-1 after one while the game was tied 3-3 after two and 5-5 following regulation.
“Real good resiliency from the guys,” Niagara head coach Billy Burke said. “To come back from down two goals two separate times, while obviously not ideal, showed the character and the leadership of the team.
“While we want to win every game, I’m very proud of the players and hopefully we can continue to roll as we head into two big home games the rest of the weekend.”
The Attack outshot the IceDogs 48-38, including 22-12 in the second period.
“Christian Sbaraglia was solid in net,” Burke said.
Barrett Kirwin and Ethan Burroughs paced Owen Sound with a pair goals each while Deni Goure and Matthew Struthers also scored.
Kyen Sopa had two goals, two assists and was a plus-2 to lead the IceDogs.
“Kyen Sopa was dangerous all night,” Burke said.
Philip Tomasino, Andrew Bruder and Jake Uberti also scored for Niagara.
The IceDogs are home to Sault Ste. Marie Thursday and Sarnia Saturday. The London Knights visit next Thursday.
