IceDogs satisfied with split
The Niagara IceDogs appear to be heading in the right direction.
The IceDogs split a pair of games over the weekend and have now picked up nine of a possible 12 points in their last six games.
The IceDogs dropped a 4-3 decision at North Bay Sunday after a solid 6-2 win at Barrie Saturday night.
“Overall very happy with the weekend and how the guys have been playing lately,” IceDogs head coach Billy Burke said. “The guys are playing as a solid unit and there is trust up and down the line up that everyone is going to do their job.”
Ivan Lodnia paced Niagara Saturday with three goals while Jonah DeSimone, Philip Tomasino and Akil Thomas added singles. Mason Howard did not pick up a point but was a plus-four.
Ian Lemieux and Victor Hadfield replied for the Colts.
Christian Sbaraglia kicked out 34 shots in goal for the win.
Sunday at North Bay, Tomasino, Andrew Bruder and Jake Uberti scored for Niagara.
Matthew Struthers, Nick Grima, Brad Chenier and Luke Moncada scored for the Battalion.
Tucker Tynan made 33 saves and took the loss in net for the IceDogs.
“The guys tried their hardest and did everything we asked of them but we just ran out of gas,” Burke said. “(It was a) big, emotional win last night, then we don’t get to bed until 2 a.m. for a 2 p.m. start with North Bay off on Saturday sitting at home waiting for us.”
The IceDogs, 9-12-3-1, are at Sarnia Friday and Windsor Saturday this week.
