Juel Prep/Juel teams fare well in Ohio
The Niagara Juel Prep and Juel girls basketball teams had a successful weekend at a tournament in Toledo, Ohio.
The Juel Prep squad went 4-0 to win the tournament and the Juel girls went 3-1 to place second.
The Juel Prep squad defeated the Ohio Magic 48-36, RBA Ohio 46-37, Ohio 10th 56-55 and the Sandusky Bay Blue Devils 56-52.
“We had a successful weekend against some very competitive teams. The girls played well as a team and everyone contributed to make the weekend a huge success,” Niagara Juel Prep head coach Chris Moscato said. “We competed as a team and came away gold medalists. I am very proud of our team’s efforts.”
The Juel team lost 55-26 to RBA Ohio and defeated Ohio Findlay 56-44, RBA NXT Ohio 48-18 and then earned revenge for the opening loss by edging RBA Ohio 54-52.
“It was a real good weekend for us to continue to learn and develop. It was an opportunity for us to just really focus on what we need to do to get ready for our league tournament in a couple of weeks,” Niagara Juel head coach Si Khounviseth said. “It was also an opportunity for us to bond as a program with the Juel Prep team.”
Niagara Juel, which sits in eighth place in the 13-team league with a record of 8-13, is back in action this weekend in Brampton with games versus the St. Lawrence Lightning, GTA Blues and Thunder Bay Wolves. The league tournament will be held May 24-26 in Niagara.
