JUNIOR C
The Niagara Riverhawks dropped a 3-2 decision to the Dunnville Mudcats Thursday night at the Gale Centre in Provincial Junior Hockey League action.
Jacob Saddler scored his team leading 23rd goal of the season to open the scoring for the Riverhawks. Dunnville tied the game with a fluke goal as Matthew Fang’s shot hit the side of the net and bounced off Riverhawks goaltender Matt Boere.
Dunnville’s Matt Dolan gave the Mudcats the lead with a power-play goal at 11:35 of the second period.
In the third period Dunnville’s Jesse Burger gave the Mudcats a 3-1 lead. Nick Volpatti scored at 7:50 of the third but that was as close as the Riverhawks would come as Dunnville goaltender Dalton McBride made some big saves in the final few minutes of the game.
The Riverhawks were 0-2 on the power play.
The Riverhawks outshot Dunnville 39-32 with Boere making 29 saves in the loss.
The Riverhawks currently sit in fifth place in the Bloomfield Division with five games remaining in the regular season including a pair of games this weekend.
The Riverhawks host a rare Saturday night game versus the Hamilton Jr Blues at 7 p.m. at the Gale Centre. The Riverhawks also travel to Port Dover Sunday for a 2 p.m. matinee game.
