Junior hockey roundup: IceDogs sweep weekend set; Junior B results
The Niagara IceDogs came home with four points from their annual Michigan trip.
The IceDogs toped the Flint Firebirds 7-1 Sunday after edging the Saginaw Spirit 3-2 in a shootout Saturday. It is the first time since the IceDogs moved to Niagara in 2007 they have taken all four points in Saginaw and Flint.
Sunday, the IceDogs jumped on Flint by taking a 4-1 lead in the first period on goals by Billy Constantinou, rookie Lleyton Moore, Ivan Lodnia and a short-handed marker by Akil Thomas.
Ben Jones added his fifth of the season in the second period before impressive import Kyen Sopa netted his eighth and ninth of the year in the third.
Stephen Dhillon made 33 saves in net for the IceDogs.
Saturday in Saginaw, Jonah DiSimone and Thomas scored as the IceDogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The Spirit tied the game with a pair of quick goals in the third less than three minutes apart.
Thomas and Bradey Johnson, with the winner, scored for Niagara in the shootout.
Dhillon made 36 saves.
The IceDogs are home to Mississauga Thursday and at Mississauga Friday.
JUNIOR B
Meteors 5 Regals 2
The Fort Erie Meteors got in the win column with a victory over the visiting Lockport Regals Saturday at the Leisureplex.
Luca Marcellitti had a pair for the winners while Nathan Reichel, Marco Lariccia and Brady Lee added singles. Drew Passero chipped in with three assists.
The Meteors improved to 3-10.
Tim Lopez and Alex Stinis replied for the Regals, who fell to 1-13.
Junior Canadians 4 Panthers 3 OT
Nicholas Bisser scored the winner as the Welland Junior Canadians edged the visiting Pelham Panthers Sunday in Welland.
Bisser also scored in regulation time as did Matt Baumann and Alex Page.
Brodie Thoms, Matt Ruigrok and Noah Caperchione replied for the Panthers.
