Junior hockey roundup: IceDogs win; Panthers edge Hawks; Riverhawks lose in OT

The Niagara IceDogs got back on the winning track with 6-3 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday in St. Catharines.
Ben Jones led the way for Niagara with three goals while Oliver Castleman, Ivan Lodnia and Kyen Sopa also scored. Kirill Maksimov chipped in with a pair of assists.
Brandon Saigeon paced Hamilton with a goal and two assists while Matthew Strome and D.J. King added singles.
Stephen Dhillon kicked out 30 shots to earn the win in net.
The IceDogs, 11-6-3-1, are at Erie Saturday and Oshawa Sunday.
JUNIOR B
Brandon McCorriston made 34 saves to lead the Pelham Panthers past the Thorold Blackhawks 2-1 in a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference game Thursday at Thorold Arena.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead after two on goals from Chris Webber and Noah Caperchione.
Jonah Devereux scored Thorold’s lone goal early in the third period.
The Panthers improved to 13-7-0-1 while the Blackhawks fell to 6-11-1.
In Golden Horseshoe action Friday, the Hamilton Kilty B’s visit the St. Catharines Falcons while the Lockport Regals are at Niagara Falls.
JUNIOR C
The Niagara Riverhawks dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime to the league leading Glanbrook Rangers Thursday night in Provincial Junior Hockey League action at the Gale Centre.
The Riverhawks played a strong first period outshooting the Rangers 15-7 but found themselves trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The Rangers seemed to find their legs in the second period scoring an early goal and outshooting the Riverhawks 17-10. The Riverhawks were able to get on the scoresheet on a shorthanded goal by Keith Palmer to trail 2-1 after two.
Jacob Saddler tied the game for the Riverhawks at 5:06 of the third. Noah Matteson was the hero for Glanbrook as he scored the game winner at 2:26 of overtime.
“We played a great first period and not so good second and our third was good as well, but we need to play a full 60 minutes, especially against a good team like Glanbrook,” Riverhawks head coach Tim Barath said.
The Rangers outshot the Riverhawks 43-35 with Matt Boere making 40 saves in the loss for the RiverHawks
The Riverhawks play on the road in Hamilton Sunday before returning home next Thursday when they host the Hagersville Hawks.
