Local athletes capture 13 medals at OFSAA track and field
West Niagara’s Coco van Nynatten highlighted a 13-medal haul by Niagara athletes at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations track and field meet last week in Ottawa.
Van Nynatten won gold in the junior girls shot put (12.85 m) and discus (39.41 m).
Also winning gold were: Cassie Kemp of St. Catharines Collegiate in the para girls 800 metres with a time of 3:04.8; Port Colborne’s Owen Robins in the junior boys shot put with a throw of 16.92 metres; and, E.L. Crossley’s Adam Freure in the novice boys pole vault with a leap of 3.35 metres.
Capturing silver medals were: Saint Michael’s Kalista Elliot in the senior girls triple jump with a leap of 12 metres; Port Colborne’s Caleb Grover with a throw of 15.2 metres in the senior boys shot put and a toss of 47.68 metres in senior boys discus: and, West Niagara’s Kaleb Kennedy with a throw of 54.69 metres in the senior boys javelin.
Earning bronze medals were: Notre Dame’s Sophia Saldutto with a throw of 37.9 metres in the senior girls discus; West Niagara’s Braeden Brouwer with a time of 14.64 seconds in the senior boys 110-metre hurdles; West Niagara’s Katelyn Jones with a jump of 1.55 metres in the novice girls high jump; and, Sir Winston Churchill’s Barron Walker with a time of 2:00.97 in the novice boys 800 metres.
