REDS RALLY PAST THUNDER
The Denis Morris Reds senior boys basketball team needed a 19-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Blessed Trinity Thunder on its way to a 46-25 win in Niagara Catholic Athletic Association boys basketball play.
“To their credit, they were feisty,” Denis Morris coach Randy Conlon said. “They played tough D throughout the first three quarters and gave us all they had, but at the end of the day, it was just too much Noah (Honsberger).”
Honsberger led the Reds with 28 points – including 17 in the second half – as Denis Morris erased the 18-17 half time deficit.
“At half time, I asked the guys what was working,” Conlon said. “They basically said ‘nothing, coach’. I told them I felt they really didn’t have an answer for Noah. It seemed to work, I guess.”
Zubeer Liban chipped in six points for the Reds, while Michael Conlon and Michael Cassidy each had four. Max Grant and Mitchell McArthur each tossed in a pair.
Blessed Trinity were led by Zinan Ahmed with eight points, while Kyle Love and Jimmy Hillyard each had six. Davhiel Baktwar had three and Danial Marinelli had two.
The win clinches fourth place for Denis Morris and guarantees them a home playoff game in the opening round of the NCAA playoffs next week.
