March 6 Local sports: Eden boys hockey: Baseball chiefs seek players; Flag football registration
FLYERS WIN ZONE 4 BOYS AA HOCKEY
The Eden Flyers made a successful return after two years without a senior boys hockey team by defeating the Grimsby Eagles 4-3 in the Niagara Region High School Athletic Asssociation Zone 4 AA championship game.
Down 3-0 late in the second, Issac Price opened the scoring for the visiting Flyers. Ben Switzer then scored followed by Hunter Willis 20 seconds later to tie the game. With the clock winding down and both teams readying for overtime, a Grimsby turnover in the neutral zone sprung Reid Woodcock on a breakaway and he beat the beat the Grimsby goalie with 10 seconds to go in the game.
Other members of the team, coached by Charles Koop, Wayne Chapman and Jim Denham, were Billy Avrien, Colton Rothney, Robbie Denham, Jordan Marconi, Jordan Schanbacher, Josh Frena, Tristan Alexander, Kyle D’Allesandro, Mitchell Kalakaylo, Sam Miele, Joe Aceti, Cole Pearson, Leighton Friesen and Will Schellenberg.
CHIEFS LOOKING FOR PLAYERS
The Welland Chiefs of the Niagara District Baseball Association senior men’s division are looking for players for the 2020 season.
Players must be 18 years of age. Tryouts will be held beginning March 1.

FLAG FOOTBALL REGISTRATION
The Niagara Regional Minor Football Association is adding flag football to its list of programs.
The NRMFA has joined as a full member of the Ontario Football Alliance and flag football will be offered to boys and girls ages 5-18. The season will run from April 18 through to the end of June or early July.
