More glory for Tori
Tori Rigas-DiDiomenico made the most of her final high school girls basketball game in Niagara.
The Grade 12 student at A.N. Myer Secondary scored 18 points as Zone 3 lost 64-54 to Zone 4 Wednesday at the 14th Annual Niagara Girls All-Star top 10 game played at St. Catharines Collegiate Wednesday. For her efforts, Rigas-DiDomenico was named Zone 3’s player of the game.
“I’m sad,” the 18-year-old said. “It has been a good four years and a great high school team that I played on, and I”m going to miss it,” Rigas-DiDomenico said. “It’s all the girls that I have grown up with playing, the coaches and the school. It is everything.”
Rigas-DiDomenico has been a fixture in the all-star games since she started at Myer and enjoys the season-ending experience.
“It’s just going out there and having fun,” she said. “I knew it was my last game and it was all about leaving it out there and having a good time.”
Rigas-DiDomenico certainly left it all out there to earn her third straight player of the game in the annual all-star event.
‘I don’t expect it at all, but I am happy to receive it,” she said. “It’s kind of cool.”
The point guard played with and against her teammates from the Niagara JUEL team that recently opened its season with three straight victories.
“That was enjoyable,” Rigas-DiDomenico said. “We know how each other play and practise and we use that to our advantage when we are playing each other.”
Rigas-DiDomenico will be using the JUEL season and the summer to prepare for her first season of Ontario University Athletics basketball with the McMaster Marauders. Earlier this year, she signed with the Hamilton university.
“I need to work on my defence and first step because I know for the next level that I am going to need that quickness to excel.”
She has already started strength training with McMaster and that involves working out three times a week.
