The Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association champion A.N. Myer Marauders senior football team turned in an impressive performance Tuesday at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Bowl Series in Windsor.
Myer dropped a 13-10 decision to Corpus Christi Longhorns from Oakville in the Golden Horseshoe Bowl.
“We went toe-to-toe with the fourth-ranked team in Canada which I think shocked a lot of football people,” Myer head coach Dave Buchanan said.
He described the game as maybe the most physical one his program had played.
The game was tied 3-3 at the half and the Marauders led 10-3 in the third quarter.
“We just didn’t execute at moments on offence which in turn put the defence on the field too long. They wore us down and took the lead late in the fourth quarter,” Buchanan said. “Both teams played their hearts out and I couldn’t be more proud of the players and coaches efforts.”
Travis Boland scored the touchdown for Myer and Jonny Colcuc booted a field goal. There was an amazing defensive effort put forth by many players. Ben Parker had an interception, Logan Radojkokic recorded a fumble recovery and the offensive and defensive lines fought hard against a very big and physical Corpus Christi team.
The Marauders went into OFSAA playing their best ball of the season with dominant performance over Notre Dame in the SOSSA semifinals and Westmount in the SOSSA Bowl.
“This team could have had the most adversity I’ve experienced as a coach as well. We had a ton of injuries and health concerns, but we managed our way through and played our best in the last weeks of the season,” Buchanan said.
Members of the team were Jared Cappa, Fran Della Valentina, Thomas Somerville, Marco Angelini, Jonny Colcuc, Johnny Baka, Ben Parker, Noah Walters, Dylan Devries, Dylan Finnerty, Liam Fenwick, Deniz Duzgun, Lucas Kent, Treyvon McNeil, Jun Park, Jack Brooks, Ryder Hall, Nathan Carter, Zach Gagnon, Emmett Hicks, Josh Ianizzi, Cam Walker Mills, Cooper Learning, Travis Boland, Aaron Falconer, Eric Corriveau, Joey Paonessa, Liam Armstrong, Luca Valvo, Logan Radojkovi, Quinn Hebbard, Caleb Elysee, Alessio Pingue, Carter Lidstone, Adrian Fragnito, Tyler Sam, Broden Woodland, Deniz Gungor, Ashton Bowles, Cade Ivanchuk, Shourya Sunjay, McRory Grant, Carter Ralston, Justin Marcon, Thomas Alexander, Kean Trelford, Kyler Rossi, Max Braun, Liam Grant and Preston Murrell.
Members of Buchanan’s coaching staff were Nico Marino, Dan Pepe, Josh Lisi, Bryce Ivanchuk, Chris Pelissero, Kevin Huntley, Mike Solanki and Tre Parmer.
