Myer Wall of Distinction adds trio
One athlete and two coaches were added this week to A.N. Myer’s Wall of Distinction.
Added to the wall was multi-sport athlete Josh Seguin and coaches Tracy Phelps and Joe McMaster.
Seguin, who attended Myer from 2009 to 2013, competed in volleyball, basketball, soccer and track and field for the Marauders.
“Josh was renowned not only for his talents but also for his work ethic, discipline, resilience and natural leadership skills which made him a key player on every team,” read his bio.
Seguin captained the volleyball, basketball and soccer teams as both a junior and senior and won a zone championship every season for volleyball, basketball and soccer. He helped Myer to numerous tournament championships. In his senior year, he helped his volleyball and basketball teams to the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association finals and was named MVP of the volleyball, basketball and soccer teams.
“While Josh was a fierce competitor, he also showed exceptional sportsmanship. Coaches always remarked on his desire to learn, his dedication to improve and his humility and gratitude.”
After Myer, Seguin had a successful soccer career at the University of Guelph, where he helped lead the team to a record of 51-17-12 over four years. He captained one team to an Ontario University Athletics gold and a U SPORTS bronze medal. He also excelled in the classroom, making the Dean’s List each year during his engineering undergrad and master’s degree. He was also named the Guelph Engineering Athlete of the Year in his final year.
TRACY PHELPS
Phelps, who coached at the school from 1993 to 2015, started coaching junior girls basketball and coached the senior squad from 2006 to 2015.
“Basketball has been Tracy’s primary sport since high school and her experience playing at Laurentian University inspired her to share her knowledge. Myer has greatly benefited from her passion and expertise,” her bio read.
Phelps led Myer to Zone 3 and SOSSA Championships from 2010 to 2012 and an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations’ silver medal in 2011. Her teams won multiple tournament titles, including at the Tribune, Standard, and Myer events.
“Taking teams on trips to tournaments in both Hawaii and Florida created lasting memories for her and her players.”
She also helped coach varsity girls soccer team from 2006 to 2015. Those teams captured multiple zone championships.
“Tracy found great joy in coaching as she witnessed her players gain confidence, enhance their athletic skills and develop important life-long character traits. Seeing them progress to the next level in both their sports and lives made all the time she dedicated to practices and games worthwhile, knowing she had an impact.”
JOE MCMASTER
McMaster, who coached at Myer from 2005 to 2024, coached girls hockey from 2005 to 2022 and ran the A.N. Myer Athletic Association from 2005 to 2024.
“As the head coach for the girls hockey program, Joe was noted for his ability to inspire passion and nurture a sense of Myer pride in the players. His players always respected his sincere approach and dedication to ensuring the players and team were as prepared as possible for success. This resulted in numerous zone and tournament championships,” his bio read.
McMaster also played a major role with the athletic council.
“Joe fostered a deep sense of community pride for Myer athletics. Along with the student leaders that he cultivated and supported, Joe ran an exceptionally robust and successful intramural program. This program allowed for thousands of students to participate and engage in the sports that they loved. His dedication went beyond the intramurals as Joe was critical in the growth of community support for Myer athletics through his efforts in organizing Myer football games and numerous buyouts for basketball, volleyball, and hockey. As the proud leader of the athletic association, Joe helped elevate Myer athletics from simple high school sports to a must-see show.”
