Nardelli goes on Attack
Patience paid off for Luca Nardilli.
The 15-year-old winger sat through most of the 2025 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection before finally being selected in the 14th round (268th overall) by the Owen Sound Attack Saturday afternoon.
Nardilli, who played last season for the Southern Tier Admirals, had faith things were going to work out.
“I was following it but I wasn’t I thinking that I wasn’t going to go,” he said. “I just stayed calm and patient and let it happen.”
Once he saw his name selected, the Saint Michael Catholic High School student could finally exhale.
“Yeah, it was pretty surreal. A little nerve-wracking obviously, but once I saw my name it took a little weight off the shoulders, that’s for sure.”
Nardilli said soon after being selected he took a call from the Attack organization.
“They were just congratulating me and saying that they’ve been watching my game the past year and they’ve been liking what they see from me,” he said. “I’m excited to get over there and get all started with this.”
Nardilli will report to rookie camp in Owen Sound June 9.
In the interim, he plans to hit the gym and work as hard as possible to be ready to contend for a spot in the OHL.
“I always think I’m working towards something so I get excited to go to the gym and see if all that work pays off,” he said.
After hearing his name called, Nardilli had a quick celebration with his immediate family, then planned to call over more friends and family for a bigger party.
“I’m looking to have a get-together or a little draft party at my house and invite some friends over and celebrate with them because they’ve been a lot of help, and teammates also. They have all been a lot of help along the way.”
Nardilli led the Admirals in scoring last season with 13 goals and 33 points. He measures 6-foot-4 1/2 and weighs in at a solid 175 pounds. He also played a pair of games at the junior B level for the Welland Junior Canadians.
