Niagara Spears: Award winners; new JV coach
The Niagara Spears travel football program relished the chance to host its year-end banquet at Club Roma.
“After not being able to honour every Spears player for the past two years, it was incredible to break bread with players and their families and reminisce about the past season,” Spears varsity head coach Brian Duguay said. “We would like to thank all our sponsors because without their help it would be really difficult to be able to keep our registration cost at a minimal amount. Thank you to all fans and families who comes out and support us.”
At the banquet, it was announced that Brad Martin would assume the role as the head coach of the junior varsity team.
“Brad Martin brings extensive coaching experience to the Niagara Spears. Coach Martin has been with the Niagara Spears Varsity team as a defensive line coach and defensive back from 2014 to 2022 and he was the defensive coordinator for the Junior Varsity team in 2022,” Duguay said. “Coach Martin currently has brought back the football program to Stamford Collegiate where he is the head coach He has coached high school football in the Niagara Region since 1992 and he continues to have ties to universities out east and in Ontario.”
The Spears will resume indoor training in the new year after hosting more that 150 players at a free camp that ran for the whole month of August.
“It was great to see all these players come out and be active and participate,” Duguay said.
