Nominations open for Welland Sport Awards
There is still time to submit nominations for the City of Welland 2024 Sport Awards.
The 2024 Sport Awards feature a variety of categories designed to honour every aspect of sporting achievement, including outstanding achievement, individual male/female athlete, masters athlete of the year, junior and senior Teams, high school teams, coach of the year, grassroots coach, sport volunteers, contribution to sport, and special recognition awards.
The awards are open to athletes of all levels, from high school athletes breaking records to masters athletes. coaches who inspire and elevate their teams, tireless volunteers who work behind the scenes to ensure program success and teams that demonstrate exceptional teamwork and dedication are also eligible for nomination.
“Sport is so much more than just a game — it’s about discipline, teamwork, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence,” said Laura Chatterton, Welland’s Recreation Coordinator of Recreation, Recreation Sport and Culture. “These awards celebrate individuals and groups who inspire others, represent Welland with pride and embody the true spirit of sportsmanship.
“Athletes invest countless hours into training, competing, and representing their teams and communities. Nominating them is a meaningful way to recognize their hard work, commitment, and the outstanding achievements they’ve earned in their sport. A nomination not only celebrates their efforts but also creates lasting memories and affirms their impact on the local sports scene.”
To submit a nomination, visit www.welland.ca/Events/SportsAwardsNomination.asp to access the nomination form. Deadline for submissions is Jan. 31, 2025.
The recipients will receive their awards April 4, 2025, at Casa Dante.
“By nominating someone for a sport award, you’re playing a vital role in recognizing the talent, dedication, and contributions that make Welland proud,” Chatterton said. “Let’s come together as a community to honour the individuals and teams who inspire us and ensure their efforts receive the recognition they deserve.”
