TIGERS BASKETBALL
The Niagara Tigers travel basketball program is holding tryouts for its Grades 5 through 8 teams at Ridley College on Jan. 5 and 6.
Tryouts for Grades 5 and 6 will run from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and for Grades 7 and 8, the tryouts will go from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
WELLAND ATOMS BLANK PELHAM
Tanner Cutler and Brennen Hagar netted hat tricks and Riley Caron notched his fourth shutout of the season as the Welland Niagara Street Pharmacy/Gene’s Skate Sharpening Tigers defeated the Pelham Panthers 6-0 in Niagara District major atom hockey action.
Hagar and Colby Franchetti scored in a 2-2 tie with the Grimsby Kings while Matteo Vallorani and Max Morreale responded for the Kings.
Welland is 6-2-3 in league play.
BANTAM TIGERS THUMP FALLS
Ethan McCarthy scored twice and added two assists to power the Welland Buckner’s Source for Sports Tigers minor bantam A hockey team to a 7-1 victory over Niagara Falls.
Also scoring for Welland were: Ethan Nason, one goal and two assists; Kayden Gyugyei, two goals; and, Owen Tanner and Cole Pelletier with single scores.
Welland has a 6-3-1 record.
WELLAND TIGERS EDGE WEST LINCOLN
Zach Jansen, Josh Lamb and Alexander McQuillan scored to lead the Welland 91.7 Giant FM Country 89 Tigers minor peewee A hockey team to a 3-2 win over the West Lincoln Wrath.
The win was the second in a row for the Tigers who looked strong as they gear up for their upcoming tournament in Pittsburgh.
Jordan Raso, Max Myers and Jaxon Vanderlip added assists for Welland and Lukas Biggar was strong in goal.
WELLAND ATOMS UNBEATEN
The Welland Young’s Insurance Tigers minor atom A hockey team tied Glanbrook 2-2 and beat Dunnville 3-1 in recent action.
Kaleb Bello had a strong game in goal for Welland and Kalen Sumbler and Ethan Fortier each scored unassisted.
In the win over Dunnville, Blake Marton, Kalen Sumbler and Joseph Boychuk scored goals and assists were contributed by Jaxson Beck, Matteo Valleriani, Lucas Homan and Maxx Pals.
The Tigers now have a record of 6-4-1.
PEEWEE TIGERS BLANK PELHAM
Bryson Farr earned his second consecutive shutout in league play and third overall, helping Welland Telus Tigers major peewee A hockey team defeat the Pelham Panthers 5-0.
Kaleb Séguin, Mitchell Tomaino, Eli Moormann, Quinten Hemauer and Carter Kipp scored for the Tigers who improved to 6-2-3 in Niagara District Peewee Doherty action.
