GRYPHONS 27 COUGARS 0
Colin Howe scored a pair of rushing touchdowns from 1o and 40 yards out to lead the Greater Fort Erie Gryphons to a 27-0 victory over the Centennial Cougars in NRHSAA Tier 1 senior football action.
“Offensively, we struggled in the first quarter and we couldn’t get our running game going,” GFESS head coach Dave Sauer said. “The defence held strong as they did the whole game, allowing us to get the offence going.”
Howe’s 40-yard run at the end of the first half, included him breaking a half dozen tackles.
“That really gave us momentum in the second half,” Sauer said. “The O (offensive) line really stepped up, opening huge holes and it really lets us control the clock.
“The defence kept making big plays all game and giving us the ball back.”
Also scoring majors for the Gryphons were Will Schultz and Thomas Cochrane.
The Gryphons were able to get everyone in the game in the fourth quarter, allowing the squad to remain healthy.
“Next week’s Churchill game will be an important game for playoff position and also our only day game,” Sauer said.
For Centennial, linebackers Merrick Spencer and Garvin Leavens had strong games.
