Raiders, Generals record victories
The Niagara Raiders bantam football team went on the road for the first time this season and came away with a 25-7 victory over the Mississauga Huskies at the Mississsauga Valley Community Centre.
The Raiders remain undefeated with the win.
“The players played dominant football all four quarters. A near perfect game from all sides of the ball,” head coach Daniel Federico said. “The staff and I couldn’t be more happy with how the kids played today.”
Touchdowns by Hunter Gray and Adrian Ferro helped the Raiders build an 19-0 lead at the half. Quarterback Rudy Sommerville went 4-10 passing in the game for 115 yards and a passing touchdown to Ferro. The star of the game on offence was running back Gray who stole the show rushing for three touchdowns on six carries. He finished the game with 105 rushing yards.
“Our run game was perfect,” coach Lucas Devlin said.
The Raiders’ defence played another near perfect game allowing only seven points late in the second half. Sam Edwards, the leader of the defence, had his first interception of the season and added three tackles and a fumble recovery. Austin Lewis’ first game with the Raiders was a success as he had a sack and three tackles. The team leaders in tackles were Nemi Kovinic and Bennet Garner with five each.
“Great showing from the defence today. Hard work paid off,” coach David Conte said.
PEEWEE GENERALS 56 BISON 12
The Niagara Generals are heading into the Ontario Summer Football League playoffs following a 56-12 thumping of the Brantford Bison.
Sawyer Grant had a great game for Niagara, throwing for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Austin McKinnon had 118 yards receiving with two majors. Michael Yerich also helped the team get the victory by having two rushing touchdowns.
The Generals ended the regular season 4-2 and travel to Peterborough to face the Wolverines this upcoming Saturday.
“The boys are back and are more focused then ever. There is no better time than playoffs for your team to peak and be running on all cylinders,” coach Cliff Miller said. “We have a tough task coming up but I believe with the hard work we have put in anything is possible. All the coaching staff can do now is make sure we come up with a game plan that will help these kids get a victory.”
