Golden season for Tigers
PREP GIRLS HOCKEY
It was a memorable season for Ridley’s Prep Girls Hockey Team.
The Tigers completed an undefeated season and claimed the Conference of Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) championship for second year in a row and fourth in school history.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, then defeated Nichols School 2-1 in overtime in the semifinals when Mary Sweetapple scored with less than a second remaining.
The Tigers finished the job with a 2-1 win at home over Appleby College on senior night as Brooklyn Clark, Katherine Culligan, Catherine Foulem, Abygail Grexton, Hallie McClelland, Avery Penner, Emma Penner, and Abby Russel were all honoured.
The Prep Girls also hosted the Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL) playoffs for the first time.
A total of seven U19 teams and six U16 teams (about 350 players and coaches) from Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, New Jersey, Winnipeg, Richmond, BC, Ottawa and Prince Edward Island participated.
The Tigers advanced to the semifinals before falling to Ottawa 67’s.
Ridley took home more than their share of hardware as Brooke Loranger was named Goaltender of the Year while Lilli Welcke, Mary Sweetapple and Carmen Elliot were named to the First All-Star Team. Luisa Welcke and Catherine Foulem were named to the Second All-Star Team.
