Rockway captures Solheim Cup
The final golf match of the Niagara District Ladies’ Solheim Cup was contested recently at Twenty Valley with Rockway Vineyards emerging as the clear winner over a team from Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Rockway, team pictured above, finished with 10 points to take home the cup while Niagara-on-the-Lake finished with two points.
The Rockway team, made up of captain Cindy Wegg, Denise Weaver, Sue Knoll and Lisa Petro were pretty much unstoppable. Martha Cruikshank and Lisa Allen of Niagara-on-the-Lake were only able to take two points. Louise Robitaille and Sue Gagne were in close competition but unable to squeak any points.
The Niagara District Solheim Cup is contested over the season with matches of different formats from May to August. The semifinals are held among the three division winners and a wildcard team followed by one final match.
In 2025, Division 1 will play at Lookout Point in May, Rolling Meadows in June, Twenty Valley in July and Freedom Oaks in August. Division 2 will play at Port Colborne in May, Sawmill in June, Bridgewater in July and Niagara-on-the-Lake in August. Division 3 will play at St. Catharines in May, Willodell in June, Rockway in July and Cardinal Lakes in August.
