WOMEN’S SOCCER
Niagara’s women’s soccer team ended a two-game losing streak to open the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association season by defeating Conestoga 3-1.
The Knights opened the week with a 2-0 road loss to Mohawk before defeating Conestoga on the road. It was Conestoga’s first loss of the season.
Scoring for Niagara were Mia DiPasquale with her first goal of the season and Lily Ryder with her second and third of the campaign. Assists were contributed by Tori Hultink and Aneisha Gobbels.
“It has been an exciting and challenging time working with this very young team,” Niagara head coach Rob Lalama said. “We have a great attitude and work ethic. I felt we deserved a better result in our home opener versus Conestoga, but the progress is apparent as we played our best game yet in our rematch, which we won 3-1.”
Niagara hosts Sheridan Thursday at 6 p.m. at Youngs Sportsplex.
MEN’S SOCCER
The Niagara College men’s soccer team fell to 0-3 in OCAA action with a pair of road losses.
Niagara opened the week with a 3-2 loss to Mohawk and was then shutout 6-0 by Conestoga.
“The first 10 minutes of that (Conestoga) game was an all-time low for me as a coach. We started flat and just got flatter,” head coach Frank DeChellis said.”I applaud our group on making the second half a productive period to work and steer the ship straight for our next game on Thursday against the Sheridan Bruins.”
Scoring for Niagara against Mohawk were Altin Ibrahimi with a pair of goals.
Niagara hosts Sheridan Thursday at 8 p.m. at Youngs Sportsplex.
GOLF
Niagara College’s men’s golf team placed out of 10 teams with a score of 352 at the St. Clair Invitational held at Ambassador Golf Club.
Niagara’s top golfer was Ethan Siebert, who carded 75 to finish in sixth spot.
“We have four first-year students this year and we are happy we could get the nerves out in this first event of the season. We had our fifth player not able to finish their round to do inclement weather,” head coach Adam Steinschifter said. “The team now understands a little more of what to expect and are looking forward to competing in Barrie.”
