Sinclair wraps up career
Isabelle Sinclair put an exclamation point on her high school career with a strong performance at the 15th Annual Niagara Girls Basketball All-Star Game Wednesday night at the St. Catharines Collegiate.
The Grade 12 student from Jean Vanier led her squad with 13 points as Zone 3 dropped a 63-44 decision to Zone 4 in the Top 10 game.
“It feels really great. I wasn’t expecting to win (the award),” Sinclair said. “It was a really good feeling to end off my career like that.
“I just wanted to have fun with my teammates and enjoy the moment with them.”
Sinclair admits it’s tough to move on.
“Just the togetherness and the fun we had up and down the court. Even though it’s a really intense game we managed to have great memories and have fun together,” he said.
Sinclair won a gold in OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) with the Lynx in Grade 9 and a silver the next season. Vanier earned an antique bronze this year as they hosted the Ontario A championships.
“OFSAA was a great part of my four years there,” she said. “The competitiveness is so much higher and we all got along really well and were all so tight.”
Sinclair said the gold will always have a special place in her heart.
“I think it will be a great story to tell because we were the underdogs,” she said. “How we fought and we were able to win is a great story.”
Sinclair enjoyed suiting up with the top players from across Niagara.
“It was fun,” she said. “It was hard because we all don’t play together so we don’t have that team chemistry but going up and down more it started to click.”
Sinclair, who pays NDBA JUEL, is still considering her options for next year.
A total of $650 in proceeds from the games were donated to Gillian’s Place.
