Soccer showcase returns

Some of the top high school players will have an opportunity to strut their stuff at the Niagara College High School All-Star Soccer Showcase Wednesday indoors at Youngs Sportsplex in Welland.
A total of 32 boys and 32 girls are slated to participate. The girls game goes at 6 p.m. followed by the boys game at 8 p.m.
“High school soccer is an important contributor to our program and it’s great to be able to celebrate the recent season and the accomplishments of our local student/athletes,” Niagara College men’s coach Frank DeChellis said. “Anytime we can make a soccer game happen it makes the world a better place for 90 minutes.”
Women’s head coach Rob Lalama is eager to the see the talent.
“So happy for the return of our high school showcase,” Lalama said. “I know the players look forward to it as much as the Niagara College coaches. Based on the scouting we’ve done this year, I can tell you that the Niagara region is a hotbed for talent.”
“After a two-year pause of this event, our entire coaching staff is excited to once again get all the top high school soccer players back on one field – one game,” men’s assistant coach Rino Berardi added.
