Steelheads edge IceDogs in overtime

The Niagara IceDogs picked up a point Friday night, dropping a 4-3 overtime decision to the Mississauga Steelheads in Ontario Hockey League action in Mississauga.
The loss drops Niagara’s record to 10-34-7-1 for 28 points.
The Steelheads improve to 27-21-4 for 58 points.
“Really good, the guys worked hard,” Niagara coach Ryan Kuwabara said when asked about the effort. “We created some good scoring opportunities and capitalized on our power play.
“When we play hard and stick to our game plan we play really well and the guys can play with some confidence.”
The Steelheads took a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes on goals by Angus MacDonell and Luke Misa. Alex Assadourian continued his fine play for Niagara with his 11th of the season.
Former Steelhead Zakary Lavoie tied the game for the IceDogs with a power-play marker in the second period.
Nathan Ribau gave the IceDogs a 3-2 lead when he scored with the man advantage nine minutes into the third. The Steelheads then tied the game at 3-3 when former IceDog Brice Cooke netted his fifth of the season at the 13:37 mark.
Zander Veccia potted the winner two minutes into overtime.
Josh Rosenzweig kicked out 44 shots in net for Niagara.
Ryerson Leenders faced 23 shots in goal for the Steelheads.
The IceDogs are home to Sudbury Sunday at 2 p.m. and in Oshawa for Monday matinee.
