Tigers and Storm advance to consolation semifinals
The Ridley Tigers wouldn’t miss playing in the 60th Annual Standard High School Basketball Tournament.
“I love being in this tournament and I feel that it is important that we are in it every year. We are always happy to be a part of it,” Ridley head coach Josh Doan said Tuesday, after the Tigers defeated the St. Catharines Collegiate Saints 77-36 in The Standard consolation quarter-finals at Saint Francis. “We are excited to be a part of it and we are happy to have a home game on Thursday. We are pretty excited about that too.”
Ridley will play host to the consolation semifinals at 3 and 4:30 p.m. Thursday and the championship semifinals at 6 and 7:30 p.m.
Ridley rebounded from an 81-74 opening loss to Blessed Trinity by taking care of business against a hard-working Collegiate squad.
Doan’s squad can score but needs to get better at the defensive end.
“We break 70 (points) quite often in a 32-minute game which is pretty good but we are still working on that team chemistry and defence always comes second,” he said. “For a new team with four new starters and a bunch of Grade 9s and Grade 10s, we are coming along but we still have a long way to go and we are going to get tested even more on Thursday. We will need to rise to the occasion.”
