Waldin-Mullings returns to River Lions
The Niagara River Lions continue to work on their roster in anticipation of the start of training camp on May 15.
After filling the import spot on their roster last week with 6-foot-10, 205-pound power forward Tidjan Keita, the Canadian Elite Basketball League announced the signing of Canadian Daniel Waldin-Mullings Tuesday.
The Toronto native was one of seven River Lions who signed an option letter which meant that he would be protected by the team from the start of free agency until March 2. Head coach and co-general manager Victor Raso and head of basketball operations and co-general manager Antwi Atuahene are thrilled to have Waldin-Mullings back for his third season with Niagara.
“Daniel has been a phenomenal leader on and off the court for the past few seasons,” Atuahene said. “He carries himself with a confidence that’s infectious to his teammates and he plays a major part of our culture in Niagara. We are excited to continue to hunt together.”
Last season, the 6-foot-3 guard, who was the recipient of the Ben Zwolak Community Ambassador Award, averaged 7.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the River Lions.
“I’m excited to get back to Niagara this summer and join the River Lions once again,” Waldin-Mullings said. “Knowing the culture and the family setting that’s in place, I look forward to returning and getting our ultimate goal of winning a championship.”
The former New Mexico State scholarship player has in China, Germany, Finland, Israel, Belgium and presently with the Klosterneuburg Dukes of the Austrian Basketball Superliga. With the Dukes, he is averaging 6.5 points, 5.7 points, 2.5 assists and 21.3 minutes of playing time per game.
He brings energy, toughness, athleticism and competitiveness to the River Lions and a presence on both ends of the floor.
