Weekend junior B roundup
The St. Catharines Falcons blew a three-goal lead in the third period and had to settle for a 3-3 double overtime tie against the Welland Junior Canadians in a Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference game Sunday at the Welland Arena.
Goals by Nick Volpatti, Jacob Romano and Trent Glenney gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead after two periods before the Junior Canadians rallied in the third on goals from Phillippe Angervil, Jarome Myers and Brendan Morin, the last two on the power play.
The Falcons outshot the Junior Canadians 47-28.
“Last night is one we would like to forget, but learn from,” Falcons coach Tyler Bielby said. “It’s a 60-minute game and we only played for 40 minutes. When you play like your lead is safe, sometimes the hockey gods have a way of making you eat your humble pie.
“We all need to be better and that process starts Tuesday in practice.”
