Weekend junior B roundup: Meteors roll on
The Fort Erie Meteors appear to be hitting their stride with the playoffs just around the corner.
The Meteors won three games this week to increase their winning streak to four in a row and improve their overall record to 23-19-0-1.
The Meteors edged the Caledonia Corvairs 2-1 Wednesday, then took care of the Niagara Falls Canucks 4-1 Friday and the Pelham Panthers 7-2 at home Saturday.
“A great week for us overall,” Fort Erie head coach Nik Passero said. “Wednesday felt like a playoff game from the minute the boys guy to the rink and they played with that intensity all night. (Goaltender) Duncan (Nichols-Delay) played really well and we got the job done.”
Michael Angrilli and Jayden Baldinelli scored for the Mets.
Dylan Dekoe had the lone Caledonia goal.
Friday in the Falls, Angrilli, Hunter Zoccoli, Marcus Regina and Brendan Krawczyk scored.
Owen Goodbrand replied for the struggling Canucks.
Zoccoli, Regina, Krawczyk, Riley Noble, Owen Kelley, Doug Doren and Kevin Gould scored versus Pelham.
Jonah Devereux and Steven Katsis replied for the slumping Panthers who have dropped 14 straight.
“Friday and Saturday were two games where we just had to put in the work and let our play take over,” Passero said. “Our depth has really come alive in the last month and it’s making things a lot easier. Doren, Angrilli and Kelley have been playing together since Christmas and their numbers are really starting to show the chemistry they have.”
The regular season comes to an end Sunday, April 3.
SATURDAY
Kilty B’s 2 Corvairs 1 SO
Nathan Phillips and Colin MacDougall both scored in the shootout as the Hamilton Kilty B’s edged the Corvairs at the Haldimand Centre.
Phillips scored for Caledonia and Dekoe for the Corvairs in regulation time.
Braedyn McIntosh made 34 saves in net for the winners.
SUNDAY
Kilty B’s 10 Panthers 2
Dylan Abbamont had three goals and two assists and Matheson Mason also scored a hat trick as the visiting Kilty B’s defeated the Panthers in afternoon action at Pelham.
Phillips added two goals while Sam Shakes and Justin Monteith rounded out the scoring.
Calvin Marandola and Calvin Petrovsky replied for the Panthers.
Canucks 5 Junior Canadians 3
The Niagara Falls Canucks won for just the second time in 14 games, defeating the Welland Junior Canadians Sunday night in Welland.
Goodbrand, Kyle Cupolo, Ethan Walker, Xavier Moura and Zach Mambella scored for the Canucks.
