The Fort Erie Meteors showed little rust in their first game following the Christmas break, defeating the Pelham Panthers 8-1 in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday afternoon in Pelham.
Kyle Adamo and Danny Adamo each had two goals for the Mets while singles went to Hunter Coley, Zac Mizzi, Tate Donald and Chris Reid.
Sam Tonelli, Cam Thorpe and newcomer Jack Ryan, picked up from the Welland Junior Canadians last week, added two assists each.
John Lloyd made 26 saves for the win in goal.
“Great team effort,” Meteors head coach/general manager Nik Passero said. “After a long break we wanted a fast start and our leaders got us going. Was nice to see our new additions get in the lineup and get things started. Best time of the year coming up.”
Ty Boone netted the loan goal for the Panthers.
Pelham fared much better Friday, defeating the Junior Canadians 7-5 behind two goals and two assists from Mason Goodfellow.
Cooper Drennan also scored twice while Owen Hunks, Ryan Wercholaz and Zachary Bell added one each.
Logan Snyder made 25 saves for the win.
Denimes Mosler-Plata had two for Welland while Joey Marrese, Joshua Cacciola and Ignac Bene also scored.
Ivan Kastelan faced 53 shots in goal for the Junior Canadians.
Falcons blank Bombers
The St. Catharines Rankin Construction Falcons rebounded from a tough 2-1 loss Friday to defeat the Caledon Bombers 3-0 Saturday.
Ally Mostafie (16), Brendan Grenville (10) and Marcus Harris (9) scored for St. Catharines.
Jacob Ceranic earned the shutout.
“Nice to finish the weekend with a win,” Falcons president of hockey operations/head coach Tyler Bielby said. “We were able to generate some good offence and did a good job of getting to the house. We just need to continue to focus on playing the right way and finishing our chances. In the meantime, it was nice to only have two go past us this weekend, and props to Jaker (Jacob Ceranic) and the team for the goose egg while we continue to try and find the net. We can live with a player working through his offence, but playing in our zone and off the puck is non negotiable.”
SATURDAY
Sailors 2 Corvairs 1 SO
Frankie Cardarella and Andrew Willis scored in the shootout as the Port Colborne Sailors edged the Caledonia Corvairs at Caledonia.
Nathan DiPietro (8) scored for Port in regulation while Ethan Quick (19) replied for the Corvairs.
J.J. Salajko made 42 saves for the win.
Keegan Jackson kicked out 36 shots in a losing effort.
