It was a good weekend for the Fort Erie Meteors.
The Mets won a pair of games to improve to 7-3 on the season, knocking off the Pelham Panthers 3-2 at home Saturday night before edging the Caledonia Corvairs by the same score Sunday afternoon in Caledonia. It was the first loss of the season in regulation for the Corvairs.
“Coming away with four points is always a good feeling,” Fort Erie general/manager coach Nik Passero said. “Felt like our top players were really good today in Caledonia and we kept most of their top guys off the scoresheet.”
Hunter Coley, Kyle Adamo and Liam Beamish scored for the Meteors at Caledonia while Blake Hall chipped in with a pair of assists.
Niagara IceDogs prospect Charlie Burns made 36 saves in net.
“Beamish, Hallsy and Adamo all had big nights and obviously Burnsy shut the door. Both games this weekend we had 40-plus shots and the offence is starting to come along,” Passero said.
Zack Lewis and Zachary Naherne replied for Caledonia.
Coley, Nolan Stickland and R.J. Schmidt scored against Pelham while Burns made 44 saves.
Jordan Adams and Riley Smyth countered for Pelham.
Falcons 3 Panthers 2
Dallys Hibbert broke a 2-2 deadlock with his first goal of the season halfway through the third as the visiting St. Catharines Falcons edged the Panthers Sunday afternoon.
“We are thankful for the two points versus Pelham and it was nice to see Dallys Hibbert get his first junior goal, the game-winner to boot and his first of many,” Falcons general manager/coach Tyler Bielby said.
Captain Caleb Thompson scored twice to give St. Catharines a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Smyth and Jacob Raposo scored less than a minute apart in the second for Pelham.
“We need to be a lot better than we were today,” Bielby said. “It’s very important that we stick to the process and commit to being more consistent throughout 60 minutes. Every team in the league this year seems to be working extremely hard. Take your foot off the pedal for a minute and it can costly.”
Cal Gardner made 30 saves for the Falcons.
“Credit to Cal Gardner, or as we like to call him, Broadway,” Bielby added. “He made a timely save in the third period that allowed us to close out the win. He’s a long way from home. As an American-born player, we extend a happy Canadian Thanksgiving to him and his family.”
Logan Slou made 52 saves in net for Pelham.
Corvairs 4 Sailors 2
The Corvairs put an end to the visiting Sailors’ eight-game point streak with a 4-2 win Saturday.
Nathan Duplessis, Sami Douglas, Will Bray and Zack Lewis scored for Caledonia.
Aiden Cupelli and Sam Tonelli replied for the Sailors.
Isaac Gravelle made 32 saves for Port while Keegan Jackson made 23 saves for the win.
Kilty B’s 4 Junior Canadians 2
The Kilty B’s doubled the Junior Canadians Sunday night in Welland.
Luca Campolo had two goals for the winners while Brett Henderson and Anthony Giancalone added singles.
Dustin Lariviere and Jack Ryan replied for Welland.
